<strong>The werewolv.es Unofficial "How To Play"</strong>

This is an unofficial guide to the werewolv.es online Werewolf game. It's community made and represents the collective game knowledge of the players. This means that not everything here can be considered "canon" but is usually very accurate. New roles, items and mechanics are documented as they are encountered and may change significantly as they are developed, before being added to the official How to Play.

New players should start with the New Player Guide

Editing the Wiki
It's especially helpful if you can add the role text, item text and the moderator messages from abilities and items to the relevant pages, as and when you get them.

To edit the wiki you will need an account and it's best if you follow the Style Guide to ensure your page/edits are consistent with the rest of the site.

Rules
There are some general rules that you must follow:

1) You must keep your account name the same as your account on ww.es or Discord

To edit a page you need to make an account. To make an account you must use the same name as your account on werewolv.es or the ww.es discord server.

2) Do not edit or create a page whilst you are in an active game. NO EXCEPTIONS.

For example if you have a new role or item you must wait until after the game has finished to add it to the wiki.

3) Do not copy/paste from the official How to Play.

You must write your own text and description, rather than copying from the official H2P. Text from in-game (e.g role text, item text etc) is okay to copy/paste exactly as it is in the game.

The Black Market
A new Province upgrade that unlocks all kinds of shady stuff. Some of it you've seen before, some it you haven't.

Item - Harpy's Talon
Allows its bearer to shroud themselves for a day, at the cost of silencing themselves for the rest of the game.

Item - Ring of Persuasion
Grants its bearer's vote an extra +1 to their vote power during the day. (Yes, these stack)
kdm-002 day 8 update - 08 Jan
<blockquote>Greetings <Name>, loyal resident of kdm-002

This update mostly concerns the affairs of the nobility, and their reasons for wanting to off each other in nasty ways.

Faction Pledge Bonus (Factions)

Nobles can now pledge a Province to a faction (from the Province item if they control it). Village / Evil Factions gain a small influence bonus from having a Province pledged to them. Evil factions will be aware of pledges to them, village will not.

End Game Scoring (Factions)

Most of the game don't give a monkeys about victory points, they simply want to be the faction that has the most Provinces pledged to them by game end. Neutral Provinces count as half a Province towards the village tally. Control of Highmere breaks ties.

End Game Victory Points (Nobles)

Nobles gain 3VP per Province they control and 4VP for controlling Highmere. There is 1 bonus VP awarded to the Noble that ends the game with the most Influence

Faction Pledge Victory Points (Nobles)

Nobles gain 3VP per day if they have the most Provinces pledged to a faction. E.g. Noble A has 2 pledged to Village, Noble B has 2 pledged to Village, Noble C has 3 to Wolfpack, Noble D has 2 to Wolfpack, Noble E has 1 to Coven. Only Noble C and E would receive their bonuses that day.

Victory Point Purchase (Nobles)

Nobles can also buy Victory Points throughout the game for Influence

Noble Successors

Nobles can name a successor if they control a Great Hall. If the Noble dies and the Successor accepts, they will become a Noble aligned to their current faction. They retain their faction win conditions, however can accrue victory points on behalf of their Noble

Province Claims / Capture

Reminder for the rules of Province claiming. A Noble may attempt to claim any one Province per night. If it is not already claimed and they bid the most influence, they will claim it.

Nobles can take a claim from another by attacking and winning the battle for a Province.

On death, all claims held by a Noble are lost and can be claimed by other Nobles. Should the Noble have had a successor, they will not automatically receive the claims and must try to reclaim them the same way other Nobles would.

SUMMARIES USE IS FOR WINNERS - The removal of less relevant information and keeping them succinct is also for winners. Be a winner.

A quick note on the battles, players in neighbouring Provinces can lend support. Obviously, if that neighbour is attacking, this is moot. I'll try address that in time, but don't do anything silly like lend support from Auldstan in the battle WITH Auldstan.
Repeated mod announce from yesterday in chat - 've been asked to verify, so will do so publicly. I am not sure if the old code that determined factioned status (the only previously mentioned) would take into account a player consorting with Gremlins and appearing in many Province chats as actually being in all of them or just their "true home, and I don't have the time to dig properly I'm afraid.

PLEASE USE SUMMARIES MORE - I suggest using the chat for active discussion. Your position, suspicions, trusts, reasons and other thoughts etc should be put into your summary for players to read up on. Trying to keep/read up with the day chat is nigh on impossible.
kdm-002 day 4 update - 04 Jan
<blockquote>Hello <Name>, this is your captain speaking.

Again I must apologise for the mishandling of Province alignments, I want to re-iterate that any alignments viewed so far are using older code that does not reflect the >50% rule as previously stated.. The older code grouped the players in the Province by faction, then picked the largest one (or RNG'd in the case of a tie) more akin to the most excellent, with no problems whatsoever, First Past The Post system.

Provincial Alignment No Longer Automatically Updates - You will no longer see the alignment of your Province update at nightfall, you will need to use a Diplomatic Seal to check (you can check any Province with this). Your Provinces summary will update to reflect your last known checks

Province Alignment - Alignment is determined in this order of priority -

1) Evil faction if a single evil faction has >50% of current players in the province

2) Evil faction if the controlling player has pledged it to said faction

3) Village if >50% of the population are village and the controlling player has pledged

4) Neutral if otherwise

Noble Control - Nobles can attempt to claim control of a Province if no other player controls it (this is different to Provincial faction alignment). A Noble does not need to be inside a Province to control it. If a Province is already controlled by a Noble, the only way to gain control is by 1) Killing the Noble then claiming it or 2) Attacking the Province and winning the battle.

Losing a battle has negative consequences for the players located in the Province

Sabotage - A Sabotage action is in the works, which has a chance to damage or destroy a random building from a Provinces

PLEASE USE SUMMARIES MORE - I suggest using the chat for active discussion. Your position, suspicions, trusts, reasons and other thoughts etc should be put into your summary for players to read up on. Trying to keep/read up with the day chat is nigh on impossible.

I am also confirming receiving an email from someone I have ASV'd for because of serious meta. Hopefully they will be back tomorrow.

Thanks,

kdm-002 update - 03 Jan
<blockquote>Hello everyone

this is your captain speaking. I'd like to apologise for last night's turbulence and give you all a quick flight update. Just before I do however, a note to the couple that the in-flight CCTV caught on camera going into the toilets together, we did note that you embarked with and are sat next to different people.

The secret button now works - If you are in a Province this should give you a hidden day time chat to the rest of the Province under a pseudonym

New Item: Provincial Census - Allows you to check a player to find out their provincial pseudonym

New Item: Diplomatic Seal - Allows you to check a the alignment of a single Province each night

Province Alignment - Alignment is determined in this order of priority -

# Evil faction if a single evil faction has >50% of current players in the province
# Evil faction if the controlling player has pledged it to said faction
# Village if >50% of the population are village and the controlling player has pledged
# Neutral if otherwise

Battles will be possible from tonight

PLEASE USE SUMMARIES MORE - I suggest using the chat for active discussion. Your position, suspicions, trusts, reasons and other thoughts etc should be put into your summary for players to read up on. Trying to keep/read up with the day chat is nigh on impossible.
Thanks,
kdm-002 day 4 update - 04 Jan

Thanks,

this is your captain speaking.

Province Alignment - Alignment is determined in this order of priority -
}}

<br />
The aura that a player holding this item presents to an Aura Seer would be:
<br />

Item Text
A Mystic Vault will allow you to gain one item from its inventory at night

Items surrounded by (brackets) are locked in a lower level of the vault and all items in higher levels must be cleared before lower levels are accessible

A Mystic Vault will pass automatically to your neighbour directly below you in the player list tomorrow

You do not need to pick an item, but the Mystic Vault will pass regardless

If a Mystic Vault passes to a dead player, it will automatically try to continue its journey as close to it can on the player list

A Mystic Vault cannot be stolen or destroyed, but will disappear when empty

Usage Text
Depending on the number of items in a Mystic Vault, they will appear as follows:
: Tier 1 Item
: Tier 1 Item
: (Tier 2 Item)
: (Tier 2 Item)
: ((Tier 3 Item))
: ...

When picking an item from a Mystic Vault the following message is received:
: Tonight you will take <Item Name> from the Mystic Vault

Useful Notes
* A Mystic Vault typically cannot be manually passed to a player, it will pass itself automatically. However, holding an Altruistic Trinket overrides the auto-pass, allowing a Mystic Vault to be passed to any other player
* Holding an Altruistic Trinket also prevents the holder from taking an item from the Vault

The kdm-001 survival guide.

Greetings brave player, do not be daunted by all the shinies within the game. They'll make sense in time.
Alternatively they won't and you'll die horribly in game, but you signed up for that anyway. Werewolv.es accepts no liability for loss of life or sanity.

Anyway... some house keeping.

Read. The. Bloody. Wiki. KDM
(Well, you're currently on it now)
/beta WILL. BE. YOU. FRIEND.
Enable notifications (aka pings, aka push notifications) by clicking the first button at the top (the i). This means when someone calls out @YourName (among other things) you'll get a notification about it. Typing @ and then <TAB> will autocomplete names. On mobile, clicking the name will automatically do this.

Next - within beta you can add notes against players private to you in the player list. Sometimes I use this as an empty note for something susp, as they get a neat little icon next to their name per note.

In the calendar section you can also add bookmarks for timestamps of personal interest.

Last point for the subject of the /beta/ page - summaries. I encourage everyone to use this place to put their own views for the day there, their explanations of how they see things. People can then view the summaries for a catch up of people’s opinions. This also takes away from it being a sole player with the responsibility of being the TL;DR machine. But hey - you do you. If you want to attempt to be the summarising machine for the village, they might send confidence your way...

Incoming puppet related items
As you will have noted, a hefty contingent of wooden folk have descended upon the village. As the Keanu Reeves school for gifted oak has come up against some foundational snags and is yet to open, we needed somewhere for them to park. (Park, trees, geddit? Ah... screw you.)

To welcome our deciduous friends, there will be some additional items available for influence purchase that interact with the string willed .

The first, warm werewolv.es welcome is an item that kills them (we don’t want them to feel left out of the fun). The second - because balance is important - brings them back from the dead like brand new with a 90 day warranty.

Woodcutters Hatchet
Kills any puppet it’s used on. It has a 33% chance to break if it successfully chops. It has no effect against players and will add the ‘HoldingWeapon’ aura to those that have one. (This makes you appear as a killer in relevant checks)

Gepetto’s Toolkit
If you have control of any dead puppets, through role, or item, or otherwise. The toolkit allows you to attempt to resurrect said lifeless hunk of wood via positive thoughts and disney logic. The process isn’t always successful, but other kits might work for the puppet, and the toolkit might have the necessary mojo to bring a different hapless little scamp. Once used successfully, the toolkit is consumed.

Right, that’s probably enough rambling for one dump in your inbox. What? Just the two white russians, why’d you ask?

KDM games are a type of game that use the Influence and Deity mechanics, along with numerous roles and items to complement these mechanisms. They were first introduced in EXT-000 and are an ongoing developing feature. Therefore any information on these mechanisms and this game type is subject to change and can't be 100% relied upon.

Overview
In this gametype the majority of players start as the base role of their faction - Villager, Werewolf or Acolyte. Through the course of the game players of all factions are trying to gain Influence which they can use to exchange for a power role or an item.

Players gain passive influence each day through things such as having zero votes on them at the end of the day, but there are ways that players can gain influence in addition to this through various roles and items. Every player is given the item Vote of Confidence which can be used to add influence to a specific player each night. This means players in evil factions can gain influence at a greater rate as they know who they can give their confidence to.

Each faction has a Deity that is aligned to them. Known deities are Tyr for the Village, Fenrir for the Wolfpack and Loki for the Coven. Fenrir and Loki, like their factions, are battling to defeat Tyr and the Village. Choices the village make and game state determine the base power of a deity each night. Deities will Battle if either of Fenrir or Loki's base power exceeds Tyr's power (the highest evil faction fights Tyr). The village are informed through a moderator message of the pending fight. That night influence can be spent to boost one of the two sides in the battle. Additionally a choice is made by a holder of special items that are specific to each deity who will decide what their god will do if victorious. Battles are detailed more on the Deity page.

In addition to each faction are neutral players called Aristocrats. These players gain 2x influence from effects but do not belong to any particular faction. When a god challenegs to Tyr to a battle they are given the option to join that faction and start earning influence/buying roles for that faction. To join the village the aristocrats need to have the most influence and the current Monarch dies. Until they join a faction they can only buy items with influence. Each night the aristocrat can choose a player to find out how much influence they have. The Monarch starts as village and gets 3x influence from effects. They are able to give influence to players as part of their role.
Deities are only used in Kingdom games.

There are three known Deities - Tyr, Fenrir and Loki. These powerful gods are able to influence events in the village to the advantage of their loyal followers. Each deity is communed with through a special item. The player with the highest Influence of the faction represented by a specific deity will hold this item.

The power by which a Deity can exert themselves is determined by game state and undisclosed village choices. Devotees of a faction can spend Influence to power-up their Deity when in a battle. The more influence spent, the more likely a particular Deity will be victorious and their action to be carried out.

The Deity abilities change and are not known exactly what will be available options for those holding the items that commune with the Deity.

Tyr
Tyr is the Village Deity and is accessed through Tyr's Shield. The Shield is owned by the player with the most influence in the village, which can be any faction. Therefore it is possible for evil players to weild Tyr's shield.

Fenrir
Tyr is the Wolfpack Deity and is accessed through Fenrir's Maw, which is held by the highest influence player of the Wolfpack.

Loki
Loki is the Coven Deity and is accessed through Loki's Sceptre, which is held by the highest influence player of the Coven.

Battles
Each Deity has a base power. This base power is determined by unknown/unspecified game effects and choices the village make. When either Fenrir or Loki have a base power that exceeds Tyr's base power then a battle will occur that night and all players are told which two gods will be fighting.

The players who are holders of the Deity items (Tyr's Shield, Fenrir's Maw, Loki's Sceptre) will get to choose an action their god will carry out if they are victorious. Only the two items for the god's involved get to choose. These actions cost power and so if they win, the action is carried out and costs that amount of power. If they lose, the action is not carried out and they lose 2x the power cost.

It is possible for evil players to hold Tyr's shield, and therefore possible for evil players to try to make Tyr lose double power, as long as they are able to put out more influence to bolster their god than those who choose to bolster Tyr with their influence that night.

The battle winner is calculated as such:

Base Evil Deity Power + Pledged influence from players for that deity VS all influence pledges for Tyr

When a god other than Tyr wins a battle they are able to join that faction and start earning influence/buying roles for that faction.

Overview
In this gametype the majority of players start as the base role of their faction - Villager, Werewolf or Acoylte. Through the course of the game players of all factions are trying to gain Influence which they can use to exchange for a power role or an item.

All players gain passive influence each day by being alive, but there are ways that players can gain influence in addition to this through various roles and items. Every player is given the item Vote of Confidence which can be used to add influence to a specific player each night. This means players in evil factions can gain influence at a greater rate as they know who they can give their confidence to.

In addition to buying roles and items, players can also spend influence to pledge to a Deity of their faction to increase their power. Each faction has a Deity that is aligned to them. Known deities are Tyr for the Village, Fenrir for the Wolfpack and Loki for the Coven. Each night the Deities will fight and the one with the most power will carry out the choice of the winning faction. This choice is made by a holder of special items that are specific to each deity. The holder of this item each night is the player of that faction with the most influence.

The holder of the deity item can choose an action their god will take if they win, which costs power. If they choose an option and their deity is more powerful than Tyr that night then whichever god is highest power will have their action carried out, deducting that power from their total. If a choice was made but were not the highest power, they lose double that amount and their action is not carried out.

In addition to each faction are neutral players called Aristocrats. These players gain 2x influence from effects but do not belong to any particular faction. When a god other than Tyr wins a battle they are able to join that faction and start earning influence/buying roles for that faction.
